Rachel Jenkins

Biography

Discovering singing at a young age Rachel grew up around the vocal and choir groups of South East London.

She has spent the last four years forging a career in singing. and has been studying music theory and singing with teacher Claude Alexander for the last two years. With a vocal range of three and a half octaves Rachel is a versatile singer and has performed at London venues such as the Paxton's Head Knightsbridge, Camden Jazz Café, Tatty Bogle Club, Vortex, Jazz After Dark, Kabaret, Pizza On The Park, the Hampton Court Flower Show in July 2004 and 2005 and she can be found singing most Thursday nights at the Catapult Club, Amersham Arms Jazz Jam in New Cross.

With influences ranging from Billie Holiday to Stevie Wonder and Ella Fitzgerald to Marvin Gaye, Rachel really has the power to move audiences with one of the most expressive and soothing voices on the scene today.

The renowned Jazz singer Sheila Jordan has described Rachel's vocal as: "A very natural, soulful sound, beautiful, really beautiful"

Duo, Trio, Quartet

Rachel works with a variety of musicians to tailor a duo, trio or quartet to suit any occasion.

She performs lead vocals and is accompanied mainly by Edison Herbert (guitar) but also works with, amongst others, Lance Rose (double bass), Pierluca Taranta (guitar), Paul Riley (tenor saxophone) and Richard Swan (piano).

With a repertoire spanning Latin, Traditional and Modern Jazz, Soul and Blues, the duo, trio or quartet can add a sense of style and a wonderful atmosphere to weddings, other private functions and corporate events.
